Bladen Community College is dedicated to the educational and cultural enrichment of the people of Bladen and
surrounding counties. The College operates as a constituent institution to the North Carolina Community College

Founded in 1967, Blue Ridge Community College, Exit 235, I-81, Weyers Cave,
VA 24486, has served the residents of the central Shenandoah Valley of
Virginia for over 30 years. Its comprehensive program of instruction includes
associate degrees, diplomas, and certificates in occupational/technical and
college/university transfer programs. The College also provides non-credit
workforce training and special interest classes for individuals, business, and
industry.

Brenau University was founded in 1878 as the Georgia Baptist Female Seminary. In 1900
the institution was purchased by Dr. H.J. Pearce and renamed Brenau, a linguistic blend
formed from the German word "brennan," meaning "to burn," and the Latin word "aurum," meaning "gold." Thus, Brenau means
burned or refined gold and is symbolic of the institution's motto, "as gold refined by fire." Brenau College became Brenau
University in the fall of 1992 by vote of the board of trustees, a name change that reflects the comprehensive programs of
study, the diverse student body, the graduate programs and the regionally acclaimed faculty.
